Tuesday and Wednesday were Ho Hum days and today I went birding - Thursday February 21,

Tuesday and Wednesday were busy days with taking Lu to school and picking him up and some shopping in between.  I kept my eyes out and even Lu helped to look at birds in the neighbourhood.  Lu has his binocs and I had mine and he would spot something and I would look too.  It was fun and he enjoyed it also.  We did this from the front room windows. I like it because it reminds me how big the moon was that night.  I could not take a photo that was not blurred.

I heard from my Fort Worth Audubon friends that this coming weekend there was a weekend birding trip at Caddo Lake Wildlife Preserve (near the Louisiana border).  It was all booked full, but my friend said to contact the organizer just in case there was a cancellation.  So I sent an email off on Monday and that same day I got word that there was a cancellation and the person on the wait list could not go and so I am going instead.  There were a couple of things I needed to pick up for the trip.  So now I am going on a birding weekend without my good binocs.  I have my little travel binocs with me here and they are OK but are not what I am used to.  Oh well they will have to suffice.  I have no camera and there is a good possibility of some nice birds.  I have no birding pants or shoes or stuffable coat for being out on the water.  I had to buy some gloves and could not find a winter headband even though I looked.  Plus I had to get slippers as my feet were cold and also for the weekend away.

Caddo Lake is on the state line and it is the largest natural lake in Texas.  The rest of the lakes are reservoir lakes as a result of dams.  So it will be interesting.  I don't have to drive either which is a real treat.  The drive is about 3 hours and we will head to east Texas.  So I am looking forward to this trip.  The kids here are busy too.  There is a marathon with 20,000 runners a block away from Cassi's and she is volunteering at the medical tent for the marathon.  Part of her community contribution for her program.  Only one problem, there is supposed to be some rain... Oh No!!

On the Caddo Lake outing, we can also go kayaking or canoeing and we have a boat trip on Sunday morning.

Today I met up with one of my Fort Worth Audubon friends and helped her do the feeder watch at the Fort Worth Wildlife Nature Center and Refuge (I just looked up the name and I got it wrong earlier in this blog).  We did this for the morning which had some rain and drizzle and no-rain periods also.  It was about 8 degrees and it was overcast.  At the well stocked bird feeders at the Center we manage to see 10 species of birds.  We had a lovely time watching the feeder area and catching up on birding highlights since we had last birded together.

Afterwards my friend had to go on to work and I went and did the Marsh Boardwalk and the Trail.  I did not see anything different from what I saw almost a week ago.  It was still great to walk the trail.

So a busy day and then after I picked up Lu, Cassi had made a delicious salmon supper and Lu watch some of his favourite programs.  Cassi has an exam tomorrow and Lu was put to bed.

A pretty lovely week.  I just took Darla for her evening walk and whiz and it is about 10 degrees outside and comfortable to walk with just a sweater on.

Last night I took a photo of the large orange moon rising over downtown skyscrapers.  I had to use my iphone so there is a lot of glare and it is not a good shot but it was awesome to see the moon.  Tonight I looked and it is overcast and no moon is out there.

I hope that it is not too bad at home in Ottawa these days!!  I do not really want to gloat about the weather which is perfect here....
