Last day in FW

Image
I took Darla out this morning and it was frigid!!! It was like Ottawa weather moved in. I wonder if all the plants survived the -6 temperature.  It is warming up to 6 but this is cold with a wind.   Very appropos for me!!   I am heading to the land of ice and snow. I am supposed to get into Ottawa after midnight and I am going through LaGuardia in NYC and they are having a snowstorm right now. I could not get a boarding pass for the next stage of my trip when I tried.   So probably another adventure is in store for me. Cassi has a two hour practical  exam today so she studied with the team yesterday at school and today is the day.   She says one has to focus every minute.  So I wish her the best of luck and good good brain waves today. I said good bye to Lu and he knows I  coming back in several weeks. I think I need some luck too to get home in one day. \Post script - Welcome home... to the land of snow and ice!!    ...

Sunday March 3, 2019 - A windy chilly day here!

Image
It was about 4 degrees here today and there was a brisk wind.  I went out with Darla this morning as usual and I thought, gosh this is cold. When I went out later in the morning I first went to get my coffee at MacD's. Well it is time to pack it in, give away the suitcases and stay home!!!  I got out of the car at MacD's and starting walking across the parking lot and realized I was still wearing my SLIPPERs!!    By then it was the point of no return, I was near the restaurant door!   I was internally killing myself laughing.  Now these are sort of slip-ons and they are floral but at least the pattern is navy mostly.  But they are what they are, slippers.  No fooling anyone.  Needless to say I got my coffee and left.  After I stopped by Cassi's to get into the proper footwear and the only pair of shoes I brought with me, I headed out at again.  Laughing at myself. When the kids were out yesterday they said they saw an owl ...

Saturday March 2, 2019 Texas Independence Day

Image
Texas Independence Day Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. With this document signed by 59 delegates, settlers in Mexican Texas officially declared independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas. (from Wikipedia).     Who knew.   Some stores had sales today for Independence Day. I went to bed really early last night and I slept until 5 am.  I got up as I had to visit the bathroom.  Once there I thought I have to be quiet as I wanted to leave for birding in South Dallas at 6:30 am.  So I got myself ready and then I took Darla out for a walk.  It was still pitch dark.  I got her back in the house and pick-up my stuff for birding (lunch bag, liquids, snack, travel binocs and gloves.  I could not find a headband in any of the stores I looked.  It was cool and there was a wind.  I stopped at MacD's for my coffee and off I went for a 45 minute dr...

Friday March 1, 2019 - Birding in Arlington and then errands

Lu came into my bedroom this morning early which is unusual as Cassi is usually up as soon as she hears him up.  I got Lu rolling with the activities of toileting and washing hands, getting dressed and breakfast.  He got a treat for breakfast, Gluten free Cheerios with some blueberries added.  I was busy so it was not until we sat down to breakfast I started thinking of Cassi and why she had not stirred yet.  I started getting worried.  She is always up.... Then I started thinking of the worst case scenario.... I almost started getting weepy.  There was not a sound from the bedroom.  Lu said she was sleeping so I was almost scared going in.   Well she was just sleeping like the dead figuratively speaking.  She was so tired.  Whew! I got Lu to school and then Darla for a walkie.  Then I stopped at MacD's for my decaf and there were TV's on the wall!!!  Yipee, maybe CNN before I leave here.  The TV was not on yet,...

February 27 & 28 - Wednesday and Thursday - Ho Hum days

Wednesday was a coolish day to start and then it warmed up and was sunny.  I took Lu to school, stopped in to get a coffee at MacDonald's (no TV so no CNN fix for me yet) then bought some cards, went home and filled them out, went to the Post Office to mail them.  The post office clerk put the stamps on for me and threw the mail in the box for me.  Quite different from home.  Then I took Cassi's car to the Goodyear garage to have someone look at Cassi's car tire.  I had put air in the tire the day I started driving it and yes, it definitely has some kind of slow leak in it.  The fellow at the garage fixed it with a patch and told me the tire had a nail in it.  From there I went to a Bead shop to get my pearl necklace restrung as Lu had pulled it by accident and it broke.  Then off to Natural Grocers to pick up something for supper and then back to the Goodyear garage as they had said that the indicator light will go off once I drive it a bit and ...

Tuesday February 26, 2019 - Colleyville Nature Centre birding.

The temperature this morning was 11 degrees when I woke up and it was an overcast day with some sunny periods.  It was really comfortable.  I still went out with a scarf, I always do and I wore my vest also.  After taking Darla for a walk and then Lu to school I stopped at Mac Donald's for a coffee.  Here are just some of the flowers at Lu's Montessori, this morning.   The children planted them last fall.  Off I went to Colleyville today which is about 20 miles away and about a 45 minute drive.  I had no problem finding the parking lot.  I met a lady walking right away and she was very kind and showed me the Barred Owl up in a tree and took me to Janet's feeder's a long ways down the trails.  I thanked her and she continued on her way and made sure I knew how to get back.  She was not a birder but a walker and showed me some of photos on her phone of a Bobcat on the trails.  This park is a sort of linear park with I th...

Monday February 25 - a Ho Hum Day

Image
I was kind of tired from the weekend, so I thought I would ease into the day and stay home. Darla and I were out early and the morning was lovely already.  It was going to be a nice spring day.  The temperature got to 18 degrees F today.  This morning I took Lu to school and then stopped by the MacDonald's for a coffee and the gents who meet there told me that the TV was going to be installed there soon. I returned home and the huge oak-type tree across the street was getting trimmed.  There were a crew of eight men that were there for the half day.  Two of the them climbed the tree and trimmed branches.  The others ran the chipper and other gathered the branches.  There are three huge limbs that hang over the roof of the house in the back.  Tomorrow I will take a photo.  The crew did not take these down.  It was quite amazing to watch the two fellows winching themselves up and down and over and walking with their studded shoes on t...
